We are Kristal and Claire, the founders of Shropshire Sling Library. Brought together by our mutual love of carrying our babies, we set up the sling library to help other mums and dads find safe, comfortable slings and baby carriers. We are a very fortunate library as we have alot of experience and training between us and our volunteers who without them couldn’t run the every growing library that it is today!
Sadly there are many baby carriers on the market that are uncomfortable for wearers and babies, in some cases even unsafe. Few high street shops sell a good range of safe, comfortable carriers and there is no option to ‘try before you buy’, often leading to expensive mistakes and real frustration. Many parents give up on carrying their babies altogether, missing out on the very real benefits of ‘babywearing’.
The sling library is a not-for-profit venture. We give our time voluntarily and all profits go back into the library funds to improve the service we offer. We will only hire out carriers that we would be happy to use ourselves; please be aware that this means there will be some popular high street carriers that we will not have in our library as we consider them to be unsafe or uncomfortable. See our library catalogue for a list of the slings and carriers we currently have in stock. We will be adding new stock all the time, so if you have a particular request please feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org .
Parents are also welcome to attend our monthly sling meets which will now be at the same time as the library free of charge, to look at our slings or to bring their own for help and advice.
Here is some extra information about our wonderful volunteers.
“Hi I’m Simo, I come from Switzerland, but I met a Shropshire boy in Thailand and he stole me away here! We have a gorgeous little girl named Lana and I’m currently pregnant with our second baby!
A stretchy wrap was one of my first purchases when I was pregnant with Lana and I remember leaving the hospital with her in it. I joined the library in March 2013 to learn more about wraps and what options I had after the stretchy.
Since then I’ve trained with the Trageschule and become a babywearing consultant, and I’m also learning to weave so that one day I can make my own wraps.
Come and talk to me about wraps!”
